How to write a good scene

Scenes are an essential building block of stories, novels and memoirs. Learn how to write a good scene with three monthly creative writing workshops. Helpful if you’re new to writing fiction or if you want to improve the stories you write.

All dates are Tuesday evenings (7-9pm) at Chequer Mead Theatre:

February 10 - Workshop 1: What is a scene?

  • how a scene fits into a larger story

  • unique qualities of a good scene

  • the essentials (inc. intention & point of view)

March 10 - Workshop 2: Crafting a Scene

  • openings and endings

  • characters and action

  • dialogue and pace

April 21 - Workshop 3: Going Deeper

  • atmosphere and sensory details

  • emotional heart

  • subtext and layers of meaning
